Motivation
After finishing the St. Antony Green Energy project, it was then the time to inform more people about this successful plant. Not only to show them the great results but also to increase their awarness about the global warming problems.
Our foundation used the enormous potential of this project from 2016 to fulfill the first priority of its work, namely for the dissemination of know-how about the construction, operation and profitability of solar systems of a similar size and other renewable energy sources in Egypt.
After two successful workshops organized in 2016 in the St. Antony Monastery and in 2017 at the Don Bosco Institute in Cairo, the third workshop was held in the student dormitory Mahabbat Allah (God's Love) in Cairo under the title "Renewable Energies and Storage Systems: Opportunities and Challenges".
3rd Workshop in Cairo
In the first two days, there were 8 German/Egyptian speakers from academia and industry with 9 interesting lectures that cover wide range of topics: negative effect of global warming, renewable energies in Egypt, hydrogen as an alternative way to store energy, problems of the national Egyptian grid, SAGEP (St. Antony Green Energy Project), the role of power electronics in renewable energy sources, and Don Bosco training courses on renewable energies.
We had about 150 participants (with 21% female) coming from different governorates in Egypt. In the third day, the participants visited the SAGEP at St. Antony’s monastery as a model example of stand-alone photovoltaic plant that generates 210 kW-peak electrical power for the monastery. This PV plant was planned, designed, and installed by the Freundeskreis in 2012-2013.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we are planning to hold our fourth workshop online.
